Bowl #2

This is what is known as a natural-edge or bark-edge open bowl. It is made from flame maple. “Flame” refers to distortions in the wood fibers. It is not a part of the grain, because it runs perpendicular to the direction of the grain. 

One of the things I love about maple when it does this is the way light reflects off the surface. With this piece, the tricky part involved turning the piece in a way that left the bark edge in place.
